Measurements play an important role in daily life because they are useful to do basic tasks, such as take a temperature with a thermometer, make time estimations, measure out medicine and find weights, areas and volumes of different materials or substances.

Understanding place value helps us make decisions that are used in our daily lives e.g. costs, weight, distances, time etc. It is also a useful skill to be able to round numbers up and down in order to help us with estimating.
