Education & Employment
at Cedars College

Walker Terrace will provide long term accommodation for Key Stage 4 and 5 pupils to either provide a longer transition to Cedars College or to an alternative provider of Further Education.
The curriculum at Key Stage 4 will assist us in identifying the support needs of learners sooner, so that an individualised curriculum can be designed to meet their aspirations and support needs; ultimately ensuring that we can prepare learners for adulthood and to be ‘Fit for Life’.
Whilst promoting Preparation for Adulthood in all of our young people, learners will also benefit from bespoke, personalised programmes that will combine educational aspirations, outcomes for achieving independence, aspirations for leading an active life within the community with good social relationships and a healthy lifestyle (physically and mentally).
In the academic year 2020-21:
â–¶ 20% of learners that left Cedars Post 16 provision progressed to either academic or vocational Level 3 study at Newcastle College

â–¶ 30% of learners progressed to Project Choice Stage 1 at Gateshead College

â–¶ 20% of learners progressed to Project Choice Stage 2 at Gateshead College

â–¶ 20% of learners progressed to mainstream Level 1 study at Gateshead College

â–¶ 10% of learners progressed to a supported programme of learning/ supported employment within Gateshead Adult Learning and Skills department

We would like to aim for all learners to have access to work experience at some point during their programme. Past placements at Cedars have included: classroom support positions across a range of ages and abilities, placements at local charities, care homes, placements in retail outlets, and placements in animal care settings, hotels, football coaching and others.
It is envisaged that where appropriate, pupils within Key Stage 4 would also have access to work experience opportunities as they present themselves based on the individual aspirations and support needs of the learners. We will also look to implement a number of work experience placements within Cedars Trust across both sites where appropriate to make the access to work experience for all learners (including those with high support needs) possible.
